Having a relaxing evening at home

Like most of the country, I am home listening to President Obama speaking on health reform. I happen to agree with alot of what he is saying. Insurance is just so expensive and then the coverage is minimal. Basic medical needs have become "elective". Really? Since when is a medication that can prevent a heart attack or further damage considered "elective". Then there are those (mostly greedy employers) who thinks its unfair that they are required to pay for health care but they don't see any wrong in lining their pockets at the backs of employees who are at the bottom of the pole. There are some things that are basic and I don't mind paying my fair share. Case in point: President Obama 'attacked' sin taxes to pay for child health care to the tune of some 8 million dollars to ensure otherwise uninsured children. The taxes were geared at what is known as "sin" ie. cigarettes, alcohol, gambling, etc. Well I am not a drinker and I don't gamble but I do buy a pack of cigarettes once a week (yes, I am trying to quit) but I am not mad at the excess taxes. Get over it people. This country has alot to answer for and not only that there is much "correction" to be done from years and years of abuse and neglect on the part of this country. Health care is but a small portion of the equation. IMHO.

Wake deputies have been spotted using a black Chevy Corvette Z06 to pull over speeders on Interstate 40. Among the fastest production cars in the world, the Z06 has a base sticker price of $74,875 and a growling V8 racing engine that turns out 505 horsepower.

Being an admitted speeder and all around road hog, I was a bit suprised and shocked and yes hurt to see this news story. I have made great efforts to slow my little behind down but my car refuses to obey. So I can forsee a few speeding tickets in the future!! I am not too worried however, because I don't use I-40 that much unless I am going home for a visit or really need to get to Raleigh. Shhh...I use 70 most of the time. Now I know all of you (family and friends) are laughing your butts off because all of you...and I mean all of you...talk about my driving. I have been known to take a three hour trip and make it in two hours. Oh well. That speeding bullet on your bumper is probally me.

My sound off for President Obama

"I love the folks who helped get us in this mess and then suddenly say, 'Well, this is Obama's economy,'" the president told an outdoor crowd at Macomb Community College, veering off his scripted words. "That's fine. Give it to me. My job is to solve problems, not to stand on the sidelines and harp and gripe."

This is a quote from President Obama on his plans to dedicate 12Million dollars to community colleges to prepare the unemployed for a new job market. I happen to agree with President Obama that with many jobs going "green" and that field being wide open, we will need people trained to do it. I am sick of the naysayers blaming him for the economy and the mess the former Bush Administration got us into. And yes, yes, yes, Clinton did leave us with a surplus!! America has always had debt and been in a deficent. What else is new. I am very proud of President Obama for taking on the challenge of the economy and not cower like Bush did.

One more thing...I am sick of the Media referring to the President as Mr. He has earned his title and should be respected by the use of his title. No one dared call Bush "Mr. Bush", he was always "President Bush". Now I hear Obama referred to "Mr. Obama" more than "President Obama". That sickens me. It reminds me of those same Media who referred to the victims of Katrina as "refugees". So let me say it America: It is Mr. President or President Obama. Mr. Obama ran for president and won. From now on his title is President even when he leaves office. Thats my sound off for today.

I am on this road, this walk, that calls me to follow the Lord of my youth, Jesus. I know I am headed that way, but like everyone, satan is watching and tossing things my way. The goal? To confuse, to steal, kill and destroy. Oh yes, he definately wants to take me out. Still, God keeps rescuing me and standing me on my feet again. On that walk, He is there beside me, in front of me and sometimes behind me, pulling me to the finish line. Rooting for me, telling me I can do all things through Him that strengthens me. He reminds me of His saving grace, His undying love, His awesome power and He resounds in my spirit that He (alone) is the Author and Finisher of my faith. He has saved me, is saving me and will save me. I am not alone. When I am confused, He is not. When I am unsure, He is confident. When I am scared, He is brave. He never puts me in a fight to lose the fight, He puts me in it, tells me to stand still and watch Him win it. That is the God of my youth. That is my Lord today. I am reminded of this as I face challenges in life and make decisions that affect my life. Jesus must be first in my life. Though I claim chief of sinners status, like Paul, I am also aware that He (God) has made me to stand. When Jesus stands up for me as my advocate the jury says guilty but the Judge says not guilty. I put my trust and faith in Him.

The Midnight Hour

Most of my friends and family know I am a thinker. I meditate on things all the time. So this afternoon, I am washing clothes, cleaning my room and preparing for the weekend that promises to be semi busy. While doing all of this, I am watching Twilight Zone on the laptop. It got me to thinking of the "Midnight Hour." Have you ever heard someone say "If he/she can just make it through the night?" I have to and I understand that when there is heartache and sickness, it is the midnight hour that is the hardest to get through. Some consider it the "terrors" of the night. I can agree that during those times it does feel like an unnatural terror. However, I was thinking of that Midnight hour and what it really means. Midnight is one minute of a 24 hour day that is actually a time of transition. It is the ending of one day and the beginning of another. It is a time when the past becomes just that, the past. It is an opportunity to begin a new day. It is a time when dawn is not yet, but it is near. You can look for the dawn, the light of a new day. Midnight has been deplicted in films as a scary time, but in essence it should be a time of quiet resolve that the day is gone and a new day begins and always, always, where there is life there is hope.

I have 'midnight hours' and I admit it is not fun when those times come. But I am realizing that with those dark hours it is a revelation to me that it is also just the dawning before a new day. I have avowed to make each day better than the one before it. What can't be changed is not worth meditating on unless it is a revisit of the past to not make those same errors over again. With each new day is another chance to get things "right." Why not change the way we view that "midnight hour?" I sure will.

Michael Jackson

RIP Michael Jackson

I admit I was not a "big" Michael Jackson fan after the Thriller album. Too much surgery and accusations and unanswered questions and bizzare behavior for me. Still he was a music genius and should be respected and remembered as such. So here's to you Michael, rest in peace.
